Brass Bands have done many things for charity, but this has to be one of the biggest physical challenges ever undertaken by a brass band, all in aid of the MS Society.
On the 24th August 2013, over 30 players from across the UK will be taking on the National 3 Peaks challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just 24 hrs. This fearsome challenge will be made all the more difficult as they will be carrying their instruments with them and performing on top of each mountain.
Band spokesman Steve March has told us “The enthusiasm and support shown by people in the banding movement has been amazing and we could have filled the band 3 times over. We have a fundraising goal of £10,000 but every donation could make a huge difference to the Society, and will definitely help motivate all of us up that last mountain when it has got really, really tough
Well known composer Peter Meechan has given his personal support to the “3 Peaks 3 Piec
es” band by writing a new piece specifically for the band and their upcoming challenge. ‘Rise’ will receive its premier the night before the 30 musicians take on the huge physical challenge in a joint concert with the talented St Helens Youth Band led by Anna Hughes-Williams.
Steve added “We are really grateful to Pete for this contribution to the cause and it promises to be a great night. There is a huge variety of music on offer and having St Helens Youth involved gives us the chance to celebrate what brass players can achieve when we put our minds to it. We’ve passed £8,000 now in sponsorship so the final push to achieve the £10,000 target it really on and now we get to hopefully inspire some young musicians as part of the project.
