Dalmellington Band hosted the 20th annual ‘Land O’Burns – Brass in Concert’ Event in Troon Concert Hall on Saturday 23rd August.
Twelve bands competed for £6,700.00 in prize money and a fantastic array of individual trophies and awards. The event attracted hundreds of people, including players and supporters, to Troon and South Ayrshire this year! David Thornton was the Music Adjudicator and he commented that the standard was high and he had a difficult task to determine the winners from the top bands. Iain Shaw, was the Entertainment Adjudicator, deciding on which band, he thought, had best entertained the audience, winning the prize of £500.00 and the bands gave wonderful entertainment this year! ….. there were singers, a violinist and one player even played a Sousaphone Tuba ….. fantastic entertainment! Simone Rebello, one of the UK’s top percussion soloists also held a Percussion Workshop at the event and a number of youngsters and older players gained some great tips on technique, methodology and sound production during the sessions. South Ayrshire Council gave Dalmellington Band wonderful support again this year and the Brass in Concert Event now pays out the highest prize money in Scotland, attracting good bands to the competition.
