Ian Porthouse to lead Masterclass in memory of Iwan Williams

Following the announcement at the end of 2013, that the first recipients of the Scholarship set up in memory of Iwan Williams, were the Deiniolen Youth Band, it is announced that, as part of the first year of the special Scholarship, that  Ian Porthouse, Musical Director of the Tredegar Band, the current British Open Champions, and his wife Leanne, will visit the Hen Felin in Deiniolen, to give a Masterclass to the members of the Youth Band.

Ian and Leanne, who were both colleagues of Iwan in the YBS Band, will guide the youngsters through final preparations towards a forthcoming contest, as well as sharing their experiences and expertise to educate and inspire the current members of the Deiniolen Youth Band – the Band where it all started for Iwan back in 1980.

It will be an honour and privilege for the band to welcome Ian and Leanne to Deiniolen on Saturday June 7th, and they would like offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to them both for their generosity and willingness to give their time to help give Iwan’s Scholarship a special and exciting start.

Further events are planned as part of the inaugural year of the Scholarship, details of which will be announced later in the year.
