Brooks and Gledhill strengthen Leyland team

Leyland is pleased to announce that Danny Brooks, former principal trombone has re-joined the band. Danny spent some time at Brighouse and Rastrick band but due to his ever expanding conducting and teaching roles in the North West, he felt it was time to ‘come home’ to Leyland. Danny commented, “I had a fantastic time at Brighouse but the travelling became too much. I am Musical Director of the flourishing Eccleston Band and I teach 30 or so young pupils in the village also. There is only so much you can do in a week and the extra travelling made it impossible for me to give it my best. Leyland is developing an outstanding band and I only live 2 miles from the band room so it made perfect sense to join again”.

Danny is joined by Matt Gledhill on solo cornet. Matt joins the band with a wealth of experience that includes Grimethorpe, Brighouse and YBS. Matt commented, “I am delighted to join the hard working team at Leyland. They have an excellent calendar of concerts and contests and I will be re-united with my pal Leigh Baker. The band is young and hungry for success and this is something I want to be part of.”

Leyland also welcomes Thomas Berger, a Swiss cornet player who is studying in Manchester until December. Thomas is a member of Brass Band Fribourg and is very much looking forward to playing at the Albert Hall in October.

Leigh Baker commented, “I am delighted that Leyland Band can attract world-class players such as Danny, Matt and Thomas. The band is now at full capacity (except a tuned percussionist) and we have a full schedule of concerts, contests and trips abroad. The next few months are going to certainly be exciting.”
