Nicholas Childs commented “Bandsman of the Year is voted by the players and many of the great virtuosos of years gone by have held this very prestigious award This year is was awarded to a person who has contributed an amazing amount, not just in concerts but in some stunning contest performances. Black Dyke’s Bandsman of the Year winner is Gary Curtin.”
A Pondasher is a person who supports the Black Dyke Band. The award was presented to the Band by Ian and Jan Thompson. Director of Music Nicholas Childs explained “this award is given to a person that goes the extra mile, a person who leads by example. Black Dyke’s Pondasher of the Year is Richard Marshall.”
