BBANZ is pleased to announce the 2013 National Brass Band Championships will be held in New Plymouth, 17 – 21 July, 2013.
The announcement of the test music will take place on Friday 15th March 2013 and closing date for entries to the 2013 contest is Friday 17th May 2013
BBANZ is pleased to announce the continuation of two new trial events from 2012. Amateur “all other instruments” is an event open to players of any brass instrument other than Bb Cornet, which already has its own division. Music for this trial event is own choice and must be limited to no more than 7 minutes. Players who have been placed 1st 2nd or 3rd in National Championship events in the past three years are not eligible to enter this event.
Open Slow Melody is an event open to players placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a similar event in District Contests. Music for this trial event is own choice and must be limited to no more than 6 minutes. Players who receive an invitation from BBANZ to compete in the Invitation Slow Melody event are not eligible to enter this contest, although intending players may submit an entry if the list of the invited performers has not been announced at the time of their application. The winner of this event will be invited to play in the 2012 Invitation Slow Melody.
It is intended that the solo and party 2013 timetable will mirror the 2012 one. That will mean the Junior Champion of Champions will be held on the Wednesday (early evening) and the percussion events, therefore, will also be held on the Wednesday. Junior solos will be on the Wednesday, together with Open ensembles and on Thursday, Open solos and Junior solos. Band events will commence on Friday 19 July. However, the contest timetable is not confirmed until entries have been received.
There is also the Administrator and Accompanist of the Year. The objective of this annual award is to acknowledge the year’s work of an outstanding Administrator and/or Accompanist, May 2012 – May 2013, from within the New Zealand Brass Band community. Nominations for these awards close on 14th June 2013.
