A Blast in Birmingham !

The weekend of 21/22 February 2015 sees Birmingham Conservatoire host it’s first Wind & Brass Festival directed by Jenni Phillips (Head of Woodwind) and Chris Houlding (Head of Brass). Aimed at young wind and brass players considering Higher Education the two day Festival features the world renowned brass ensemble Superbrass and wind quintet London Winds.

Superbrass boasts multitalented brass greats including Mike Lovatt & Phil Cobb (trumpets), Andy Wood and Matt Gee (trombones) and Chris Parkes (horn) under the direction of well known brass personality Roger Argente. The group will coach a massed brass ensemble, give a side by side session with Conservatoire Brass plus a gala concert comprising of many popular, jazz and original items from their recent CD releases. The evening concludes with late night Jazz.

Also featured during the weekend Brass Fest will be masterclasses by Conservatoire Tutors, members of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the college Brass Band under Ian Porthouse, together with a comprehensive Trade Exhibition.

The event kicks off on the Friday evening before with an opportunity to hear Elgar Howarth’s iconic arrangement of Pictures at an Exhibition featuring Conservatoire Brass students in a concert entitled ‘A Blast from Russia’ under the direction of Chris Houlding.
