Salvation Army invites musical Stopfordians to sign up for brass workshop

The Stockport Salvation Army Citadel is throwing open its doors on Saturday, 12 May to allow amateur musicians of all ages to take part in a day-long brass workshop that ends with a live performance in the early evening.

Led by The Salvation Army’s Director of Music and Creative Arts, Paul Sharman, the fun and creative, music-making day is open to amateur brass musicians who want to brush up their skills and try their hand at ensemble playing.

Kicking off at 10am and culminating in a short performance at 5pm; the exciting day’s programme features helpful sessions on musical interpretation and performance; and offers musicians a chance to brush up on their basic skills too.

Lunch and refreshments are provided and to round it all off, there’s a meal in a local restaurant to allow participants a chance to reflect on their day of playing and enjoying the sounds of brass.

Ian Malcolm, Stockport Citadel’s bandleader said: “We’ve had a great response to the Brass Workshop from local musicians so I’m really looking forward to next Saturday it’s shaping up to be a wonderful day. We’re honoured to have Paul Sharman come along and lead the workshops. He’s known throughout The Salvation Army as a great musician and composer so I think everyone will get a lot out of his sessions in terms of improving their technical and interpretive skills. The main purpose of the day is to have fun and get immersed in the joy of playing in an ensemble. Who knows, we might even get some new recruits to the Citadel Band!”

Anyone interested in taking part should sign up now at the Stockport Citadel website as places are filling up fast.

Once registered, brass players can simply turn up – with their own instruments to

Stockport Citadel, 121 Stockport Road, Cheadle Heath, SK3 0JE.
