Ladies lead in Manchester

Philip Biggs is delighted to announce that plans are well advanced for the inaugural Great Northern
Spring Brass Arts Festival which takes place at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester - Sunday 9th
May 2010.

 

Philip is pleased to announce a stellar line-up of guest soloists for the daytime concerts. The
opening auditorium concert at 12 noon features the Wingates Band conducted by Alan Morrison;
the featured guest soloist will be Tenor Horn star and Principal Horn of Foden’s Band, Lesley
Howie. The early afternoon concert will see The Leyland Band, directed by Russell Gray, which
will accompany a fabulous trumpet soloist from the Chicago area of the USA, Amy Gilreath. Amy
enjoys an active professional career as both a performer and university professor. She holds
positions of Principal Trumpet with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the Peoria Symphony
Orchestra, the Illinois Chamber Orchestra, the Sugar Creek Symphony and Song Orchestra, plays
with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and serves as the Brass faculty of the Orvieto Musica
Chamber Music Festival in Orvieto Italy.  Amy has been a past member of the Dallas Brass, Brass
Band of Battle Creek, Velvet Brass, Keith Brion’s “New John Philip Sousa Band” and continues to
be a member of the Monarch Brass Ensemble.

 

Professor David King will direct the Brighouse & Rastrick Band at 4.15pm. This concert will see
Brighouse accompany two fantastic soloists. They are Baritone star Katrina Marzella, who was
awarded the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2003 and has also been British Open Solo
Champion and the world acclaimed Ern Keller Champion, and Simone Rebello, who has wowed
audiences around the globe as a world class percussion soloist.

 

Details of programmes of music and the Gala Evening Concert which features the 2009 British
Open Champions The Cory Band, conducted by Robert Childs and the 2009 All England
Champions and Brass in Concert Champions, The Foden’s Band conducted by Garry Cutt will be
announced shortly.
