Desford announce Gourlay

Desford Colliery Band was delighted to have recently been awarded 2nd prize at the recent All-England International Masters Championship.  The band was directed by Jason Katsikaris, who commented: “I had the best time working with the band: Desford is a unique organisation which, on minimal rehearsal, delivers a standard of performance that is first rate.”

Looking towards the British Open in September, the band has announced its conductor for Birmingham, and the Nationals Finals, as James Gourlay. James is currently musical director of Grimethorpe Colliery, but with professional conductor, Allan Withington directing them that day, James was able to accept Desford’s invitation.

A spokesman for the band commented: “The band is thrilled to have secured James’ services for Birmingham and London. He is a first-class conductor and has an excellent track record at both these events in the past.”

James Gourlay himself said: “'I am delighted to be working with Desford, a band which I have admired for many years.”
