Top Brass at Macclesfield

Macclesfield Youth Brass Band were recently put through their paces by a talented team of musicians from the world famous Fodens Brass Band, the current British Open and North West Regional Champions.

Mark Wilkinson, principal cornet of the Fodens Band and six colleagues attended the youth band’s weekend training event at Savio House in Bollington.  The youth band is preparing to participate in the National Youth Brass Band Championships at the Royal Northern College of Music on 5th April.

Louise Renshaw, Musical Director of Macclesfield Youth said,

“The tutors were brilliant and we all learned so much. They were really positive and gave our players a great deal of confidence.  I was extremely impressed and must say a huge thank you to Mark who really went the extra mile to make the event a resounding success.”

In additional to Mark, the tutors were: Dave Morton (cornets), Natsumi Inaba (euphs/baris), Dave Wycherley (percussion), John Barber (troms), Lucy Pankhurst (horns) and Chris Doran (basses).

The band would also like to thank Peter Christian, the Musical Director of the Bollington Brass Band who also gave his time to take an afternoon rehearsal.  Peter is an experienced conductor and a former tutor with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
