Stockport Brass for Sale

Stockport Brass have recently been playing to their largest Stockport audience yet playing at a match of Rugby Union team Sale Sharks.  The band had an invite from Sale Sharks to play at their match against French team Brive on Friday 4th April at their Edgeley Park ground.  The match was the quarter final of the European Challenge Cup, and was televised live on Sky Sports and Eurosport.

The band featured on the pitch before the game and during the interval, playing a mixture of traditional brass music, rugby anthems and light entertainment, as well as playing snippets of tunes during the match.  The crowd got into the spirit, joining in with rousing singing whenever they knew the words, and even ‘Sharky’ the team mascot joined in by trying to oust the conductor!

The management had seen a band playing at away matches in France, and they were keen to try this at Sale Sharks to improve the atmosphere in the ground and boost the morale of the crowd, and it certainly seemed to work as Sale Sharks stormed to a 49-24 win.

The band were delighted at the warm reception they received from the 6000 people in the crowd and were overwhelmed by the numerous positive emails and messages on the websites of the Sale Sharks supporters after the match.  The response to the event was so good that the band have already been booked for Sale’s next home match against Newcastle on Sunday 20th April.
