Stopping the show

Willson UK Euphonium Artist Charley Brighton and Susan Vel (Baritone) recently appeared in a sell-out concert with top Theatre Organist, Len Rawle, at the Old Windsor Memorial Hall, Berkshire.

The hall houses a restored Compton Theatre Organ, rescued and restored from a 1930's London Cinema on the famous Old Kent Road and Len is one of the country's top performers. He also worked with Yamaha (Kemble) for more that 20 years when they first came to the UK.

Charley and Sue duetted in 'Simplicity', written for them by Terry Treherne, and performed separate solos, Sue with 'All That I Am' by Salvation Army composer William Himes and Charley with the Chopin Etude op.10 no.3, also known as 'So Deep is the Night'.

The show-stopper was Roy Newsome's 'Bass in the Ballroom' played by Charley on his restored Hawkes & Son Empire 1912 Cavalry Tuba where Len was able to utilize the Compton's tango & waltz features to great effect.

Both Charley & Sue will perform with Len again at Guildford, Surrey in December with Christmas matinee and evening concert appearances.
