Ellsworth Smith deadline extended

The ITG's 2008 Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Solo Competition, being held on October 9-12 at Boston University (Terry Everson, host), has announced the extension of the application deadline extension to July 10.

"We've had a few publicity problems getting the word out," says coordinator James Olcott, "and we wanted to insure that all interested players have plenty of time to peruse and prepare for the competition."

With its prizes of $10,000 and $5000 for the first and second prizes, previous ES competitions have attracted superb players from around the globe, "and we expect that the same will be so for this years event," continues Olcott.

Finals judges for the event will include Stephen Burns, Gabriele Cassone, and Jens Lindemann, all of whom will also give masterclasses and performances during the 5-day event.

Presented by the International Trumpet Guild, the competition is sponsored principally by the ITG and Columbus Foundation with major financial and in-kind support from Yamaha Musical Products, Jupiter OX Trumpets, the Conn-Selmer Corporation, Smith-Watkins, and the Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Music.

Information regarding all aspects of the competition can be found online at http://www.trumpetguild.org/resources/esmith.htm.
