Scherzo at the double

Scherzo Brass have achieved a fine "double".  To their current title of British Open Quartet Champtions, recently they added the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Prize for chamber music.  They gained this coveted award in competition at the RNCM before an adjudicating panel of Ursula Jones, Paul Goodey and Alasdair Tate.   Their programme included - William Heaton's 'Scherzo', 'My Mountain Top' by Andy Scott and Edward Gregson's 'First Quartet'.

The members of Scherzo Brass met originally in the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and at present are third year students at the Royal Northern College of Music. They include Emily Dodsworth (Cornet), Sarah Watkins (Cornet), Michelle MacGurk (Tenor Horn) and Liz Pope (Euphonium).

Earlier this year Scherzo Brass featured in "Spotlight" - part of the RNCM Brass Festival and also in the Great Northern Brass Arts Festival at the Bridgewater Hall. They now look forward to playing in the Black Dyke Arts Festival at Leeds Metropolitan University.
