Louise Renshaw, musical
director of Macclesfield Youth Brass Band, has been awarded a Paul
Harris Fellowship by Macclesfield Castle Rotary Club.
“Paul Harris was the
founder of Rotary International,” explained Rotarian Dennis Owens, who
presented the award, “and we give Fellowships as a way of paying respect
to local leaders who have demonstrated commitment to his ideal of
community service. Louise’s ability to inspire young people, together
with her hard work and dedication, has resulted in the rapid development
of a band which is going from strength to strength in the community.”
The award was made at a
joint charity concert between Macclesfield Youth and Vernon Building
Society Poynton Brass Band, under their MD Alan Lawton MBE. The concert
was organised by Macclesfield Castle Rotary Club and held at the church
of St Michael and All Angels, Macclesfield.
For Louise, a former VBS
Poynton player, the award was a complete surprise “I am lucky to be part
of a very dedicated team who run the youth band which now has now grown
to over 80 members. Rotary have given their support to the band on many
occasions, but for me to receive this sort of recognition from them is a
great honour.” |
