Porthywaen Band has
parted company with long serving Conductor David Thomas.
After 11 successful
years as conductor of Porthywaen Silver Band The committee of the band
have taken the decision to dispense with the services of David Thomas as
Musical Director with immediate effect.
David Thomas said “
I received a telephone call off the Band Chairman telling me that the
committee had had a meeting the evening before and decided to dispense
with my services” “ No reason for the decision was given and I was
thanked for my tireless service” “ I am very disappointed with the
decision” “ During my tenure with the band we have competed at the
National Finals 4 times and won over 23 competitions The band have
gained promotion from the bottom of the 4th section to their
current near top in the Midland 2nd Section. I have helped
the band produce 4 very successful CD recordings a number of television
broadcasts and become one of the foremost concert bands in the West
Midlands and North Wales. I am very disappointed in the decision and was
looking forward to directing the band during the Autumn season of
competitions and concerts. A particular challenge would have been the
forthcoming Whychavon festival where we would appear as the reigning 2nd
section champions. “This is a sad end to an outstanding success story”
Members of the band
have recently returned from a very successful tour of Belgium and
performance sat the Menin Gate in Ypres. “The tour was very enjoyable
and successful and I had no idea a decision of this nature would be
made. I understand that a number of members have tendered their
resignation”. “ I have no idea who my successor will be and I look
forward to the opportunity of working with other bands. |
