Kanstul Musical Instruments, Inc. is
pleased to have sponsored the first-ever George Roberts / Kanstul Bass
Trombone Scholarship offered by the International Trombone Association.
The winner of this scholarship is Thomas Knapp, a student at Texas
Christian University. Thomas performs in TCU’s Wind Symphony and Jazz
Band, and also with The Salvation Army’s Texas Brass.
After an extensive audition process, the
field of applicants was narrowed to Knapp, the clear winner in the
competition. An international panel of judges was involved in the
awarding of the Kanstul Bass Trombone, and included Denis Wick, Jiggs
Whigham, Matthew Guilford and Jan Kagarice. Knapp performed his winning
piece, Ewazen - a Concerto for Bass Trombone and Piano, live at the ITA
Conference held at UNLV in Las Vegas in May.
The Kanstul Model 1670 “George Roberts”
Bass Trombone features a 9½” diameter one piece bronze bell, nickel
silver hand slide, and a single Kanstul Controlled Resistance rotary
valve. More information can be found at
