New EBBA Committee meet

The first meeting of the newly elected EBBA Executive Committee took place in Preston during the weekend of the English National Championships.

This was the first meeting for new EBBA President Ulf Rosenberg from Norway, and he welcomed the new and re-elected members to EBBA Executive Committee. Kurt Bohlhalter, new member for Switzerland was elected Vice President of EBBA. Kurt has a vast experience in contest management and has been involved in many events in Switzerland in addition to being a Management Consultant in his professional life. His experience will be invaluable to the EBBA Executive. Also attending the meeting was new Secretary Berit Handegard from Norway, new treasurer Raf Anseeuw from Belgium, and new Music Commission Secretary Dr. Erich Schöfl from Austria.

On a sad note EBBA were sorry to receive the resignation, for personal reasons, of David Dobson. David has been a valuable member of EBBA Executive Committee for the past three years and was event manager for the 2007 European Championships in Birmingham. EBBA thank him for his commitment to EBBA over the past few years and wish him well for the future. EBBA has invited the British Federation of Brass Bands (BFBB) President, Robert Morgan, to step in as interim member till the next General Meeting in Stavanger in 2008. Robert was a member of the Executive Committee for a number of years, and we welcome his valuable contribution to the organisations work.

Host countries for the European Championships are now in place till 2010. 2008 will be at Stavanger in Norway, the 2009 contest will be at Oostende in Belgium, and Linz in Austria will host the 2010 event.

Countries wishing to host EBBC events from 2011-2015 should have their application in by 1st September 2007 to EBBA Secretary, Berit Handegard, NMF, Postboks 674 Sentrum, 5807 Bergen, Norway.

Plans are well advanced for the 2008 European Championships in Stavanger, Norway. This will incorporate the European Conductors Competition and the European Youth Brass Band. Detail of new music commissions from a Norwegian composer will be announced in the next few months. Full details of bookings and hotels are available from EBBA website with links to NMF website.

Peter Fraser from Scotland will continue to update the EBBA website and assist President Ulf Rosenberg with Press Releases.  Contact details for all EBBA members, Executive Committee and Music Commission members can be accessed through EBBA website at www.ebba.eu.com.
