Changes at Freckleton

The Freckleton Band is delighted to welcome several new players to the band, amidst a slight reshuffle due to player pregnancies and study progressions.

We welcome back George Barker on BBb Bass, who is returning to the band after several years of part time playing. This frees up Gareth Maybury to be an excellent “floating” player to have on BBb, EEb and percussion. Variety is the spice of life!

New recruit Shelley Goodinson (Poulton, Aunt Bessies, Old Hall) has moved onto 2nd Euphonium, with Vicki Ogden (formerly Besses, Pemberton, Pennine) coming in on 2nd Baritone. Matt Whitfield (Besses) has joined on Percussion to complete our new signings.

Unfortunately, we lose several players over the summer period. Kath Threlfall is stepping down after over a decade with the band from Front Row and Vice Chair to have her 2nd child, whilst Alison Cattanach has left to have her 1st child.

Both Richard Carradus (flugel) and Sarah Chapman (Percussion) are moving away to University, with Vicky Byrne moving back onto flugel from Assistant Principal to fill Richard’s shoes. The band is still seeking front row cornets and a 1st horn player to complete our line up.

We welcome our new players, and thank our long serving departees for the marvellous service over their time in the band.

The band has a busy year ahead, with 2 CD recordings, Fleetwood Contest, the Area, the Grand Shield and many prestigious concerts to look forward to.
