Sudeley Castle hosts PolySteel

West of England Champions, the PolySteel Band, will be warming up for the Royal Albert Hall National Brass Band Championship Finals when they perform at Sudeley Castle on Saturday 7th July for the fantastic annual ‘Summer Magic’ Proms Concert.

“The Sudeley event gives us the chance to play in front of an audience that wouldn’t necessarily choose to listen to a brass band,” explains Steve Jones, drummer and Sales & Marketing Manager for the PolySteel band. “They soon find out that we’re not the stereotypical ‘marching band’.  Our Musical Director, Phil Harper, writes a lot of the music himself and likes to give it a modern feel with creative music including some salsa hits!  It’s great fun to play and contrasts brilliantly with the ever-popular traditional tunes”.

Opening the event for the third year running, the band will take to the stage at 6.30pm, setting the scene for a spectacular flying display by the Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight before the British Concert Orchestra perform a magnificent show of classical renditions, stage show hits and traditional Proms songs.

The Gloucester based PolySteel band ‘with a difference’ has had an impressively successful year, winning the ‘Grand Shield’ and therefore qualifying for the British Open Championships in September.  Crowned the 2007 ‘Champion Band of the West of England’ they will play at the Royal Albert Hall, London in October at the National Brass Band Championship Finals.

“With the exception of the Royal Albert Hall”, Steve says, “the audience at the Sudeley Castle Proms Concert is probably the biggest we play to.  We love the entertaining side of performances as well as the music, but the Sudeley crowd is always so welcoming so it’s hard not to entertain them!”

Bring your hampers, champagne and British flags to what promises to be a wonderful evening of music, colour and spectacle.  Gates open at 5.30pm, entertainment from the PolySteel Band starts at 6.30pm, with the British Concert Orchestra in action at 8pm.  The concert concludes with a fantastic fireworks finale!
