The legendary trumpet player Maurice Murphy
has a new podcast dedicated to him by the London Symphony Orchestra.
The London Symphony Orchestra has just produced a new feature on their
website – a 40-minute podcast tribute to Maurice Murphy, who officially
retired on Sunday 3 June after 30 years as Principal Trumpet of the LSO.
Music broadcaster Tommy Pearson presents the programme which features
some of his greatest musical moments, interviews with his LSO colleagues
Nigel Gomm, Rod Franks, Gerry Newson, Gerry Ruddock and Patrick Harrild,
as well as conductors Richard Hickox and Michael Tilson Thomas. We hear
from his wife Shirley and son Martin, and of course from the man
himself. There is also the speech made by LSO Chairman Lennox Mackenzie
at his leaving party on 3 June and a very special contribution from film
composer John Williams, who talks about how much Maurice has contributed
to some of his greatest film scores.
The programme can be downloaded from the LSO website at
http://lso.co.uk/aboutus/podcasts/mauricemurphy
The podcast is MP3 audio and should play on most default music players.
