LSO Brass Ensemble concert featuring arrangements for brass
UBS Eclectica – Tuesday 13 February, 8pm, LSO St Luke’s
Long-time collaborators Swedish trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger and
Scottish percussionist Colin Currie perform together in a recital of
music by Daniel Börtz, Dave Maric, Per Norgaard, Louis Andriessen and
André Jolviet. With incredible technical abilities and extraordinary
visual flair, the rapport between the two is breathtaking.
When asked about the unusual combination of trumpet and percussion,
Hardenberger said ‘There is not much music written for them but they can
dynamically and rhythmically challenge each other which produces very
exciting results’. Currie and Hardenberger have commissioned works
especially for their duo, and during this concert, Dave Maric’s Lucid
Intervals will receive its London premiere. On Maric’s compositions,
Hardenberger said ‘they feel very youthful and fresh’.
