Generosity of St Austell

Committed to financially supporting a local organisation each year, The St Austell Band Club chose The Cornwall Youth Brass Band as the 2006 recipient of their annual fund raising activities. These had included a sponsored Boxing Day Swim, St Pirans Day Celebrations and a Golf Day, all of which raised the magnificent sum of £1230. A Cheque for this amount was presented to The Cornwall Youth Brass Band at a short concert given at the Band Club by twenty members of the Band, conducted by Brian Minear, who is one of the Band’s voluntary Tutors.

The Fund raising group at the Club consists of Clive Fewins, John Arthur, Diane and Mike Kirkin and Keith Baron. In making the presentation Clive praised the work done by the Band since it’s inception in 1955. He thanked all those who had taken part in and supported the events which had enabled them to make such a generous contribution to the Youth Band funds.

In accepting the Cheque the Band’s Treasurer, Robert Kitchen, expressed his grateful thanks to the St Austell Band Club for their generosity and support of the Band. This support would help to ensure they could continue to provide regular opportunities for the musicians to play under and be stretched by the top brass band Conductors in the Country.

The seventy seven musicians who presently make up the Band are aged between eleven and twenty one and are also members of a parent brass band in the County.
