The
current European Champions could play without pressure because they
already had a ticket for the Europeans, but the other 4 bands in
champion section were extremely motivated because a 2nd Belgian
ticket for the Europeans could be earned. That's also the reason why
Willebroek chose to play a "golden oldie" as an own choice (English
Heritage) together with the test piece Tristan Encounters.
In
total 16 bands participated in 4 sections, and that's record for
Belgium. Brass Band Willebroek won for the 6th time in a row (and 15
titles out of 21 championships). Under the inspiring leadership
of MD Frans Violet BB. Willebroek earned 93.2 points, and Metropole
Brass gained 2nd place and the second Belgian ticket for the
European championships in Birmingham in 2007.
Bert
Van Thienen, soprano cornet of BB Willebroek, which recently won the
Best Instrumentalist Prize with YBS at the National Championships or
Great Britain, had a double victory. As conductor of Brass Band
Heist he won the 3rd the division for the second time in a row.
BB
Willebroek's roll of honour can be called impressive now: 15
national titles, 2 European titles, and vice-world champion! Young
Brassband Willebroek also under the baton of Frans Violet
distinguished themselves in their division by scoring the
most points on the test piece 'Spectrum', and finished on a
deserving 2nd place in the first division.
