In the week of musical
director, David Loukes 60th Birthday and also band
secretary, Ann McKnights 50th Birthday, St Austell Band wish
to announce 4 new signing's, the return of a former member
and some position changes within the band.
Firstly the BBb Bass vacancy
has been filled by 1st baritone player, Roger Nicholls.
Roger decided that it was time he had a new challenge and
volunteered to move from baritone to the very bottom end of
the band! This move left a vacancy on 1st baritone from and
has resulted in 2nd baritone player, Laura Bennett getting
promotion. Laura has progressed from starting an early age
through the St Austell School of Brass and is delighted to
be moving into the 1st baritone position of the senior band.
Filling the 2nd baritone
position St Austell welcome Adrian Welsh. Adrian joined us
on 2nd euphonium at the end of the summer season and is now
officially welcomed to the band as 2nd baritone player.
At the end of the summer season
the band received the resignation of Kevin Ackford as
principal euphonium player and therefore with Adrian's move
to 2nd baritone have had to find 2 euphonium players.
Returning to the principal euphonium chair is Steve Osborne.
Steve is currently working towards a teaching degree but has
kept close contact with the band as his wife Leanne Osborne
is the band's flugel player. The band are delighted that
Steve has decided to return to the band.
Alongside Steve they welcome
another new player to the county, Paul Smith. Paul moved to
Cornwall over the summer having been a player with Aldbourne.
In the search for a band Paul was put into contact with St
Austell and is very happy to be joining them on 2nd
euphonium.
Also over the summer they have
welcomed Phil Wilcocks and John Jemmett. Phil has come out
of brass band retirement to join the backrow and are
delighted to now officially welcome him into the band. John
moved to Cornwall earlier this year having been a player
with the Polysteel Band. Over the summer John joined the
horn section and would now like to officially welcome him
into the band.
