British Open Solo Championships

The British Open Solo & Quartet Championships this year returns to the recently refurbished Dukinfield Town Hall on a new date and day Saturday 11th November 2006.

 

The 2005 British Open Champion Phillip Dias will defend his title and will be joined by the Ern Keller International Soloist of the Year from Austrailia, Paula Russell along with the six qualifier’s from  the preliminary competition to be held earlier in the day in the Final to decide who will become the 2006 British Open Solo Champion. The Qualifying contest will also decide who will become the British Open Soprano/Cornet, Flugel/Horn  Baritone/Euphonium, Trombone and Bass Champions. This competition is with Piano accompanist which is provided if required.

 

Also this year for the first time the British Open Intermediate Champion Ben Hirons has been invited and will defend his title and he will be joined by the five qualifier’s from the preliminary competition to be held earlier in the day in the Final to decide who will become the 2006 British Open Solo Intermediate Champion. (This competition is without piano accompanist).

 

There are three other categories to be competed for at the Championships which are :-

 

The Junior  Slow  Melody  Championship (without piano accompanist)  This  section  is  for  competitors  who  must  be  under  the  age  of  twelve. Depending on  the  number  of  entries ten  or  more, a  qualifying  contest  will  take  place, the  first five  will be  invited to  competition in a  grand  final  to  decide  the  British  Open  Champion. All competitors in this section receive certificates.

 

The  Senior Quartet Championship in which Quartet  parties  must  be  bona fide  members  of  the  same  band. The First  Place  in  this  section  will  become  the  British  Open  Champions.

 

The  Junior  Quartet  Championship,  Quartet  parties  must  be  bona fide  members  of  the  same  band  and  must  be  under  the  age  of  seventeen. The First  Place  in  this  section  will  become  the  British  Open  Champions.

 

The adjudicators for this year are Paul Andrews, Helen Fox, Russel Gray, Richard Marshall, Geoffrey Whittam and Glyn Williams.
