Focus on Brass and Percussion

Brass in Concert Championship is to present an innovative one-day Focus on Brass and Percussion on 18 November, as well as a series of concerts by ensembles in the Concourse of The Sage Gateshead and a historic presentation by Roy Newsome as a prelude to the Saturday evening Brass in Concert and the main entertainment Championship on the Sunday (19 November).

The Focus on Brass and Percussion day is being sponsored by the Shaw Trust and supported by Gateshead Council. Speaking enthusiastically about the addition of the ‘Focus’ day to the Championship and its satellite main concert, Organiser, David Bennett, commented: “This is a wonderful opportunity for players and aspiring players or every age and level to receive some wonderful expert tuition and encouragement. The event will also help to give the Brass in Concert Saturday evening concert and Sunday Competition a festival feel.”

David added: “We are most fortunate and delighted to have secured the Shaw Trust as principal sponsor of the pilot Focus on Brass and Percussion day, as well as support from Gateshead Council. Hopefully, the ‘Focus’ day is the first of many more held under the umbrella of Britain’s premier entertainment Championship, Brass in Concert.”

Junior, Advanced and Percussion workshops, as well as ‘taster’ sessions for the aspiring brass instrumentalist, will be hosted by such leading brass stars as Nigel Boddice and Alan Morrison (cornets and trumpets), Colin Dye (horns) and Chris Bentham (trombones) – both of Reg Vardy Band, Geoff Whitham (euphoniums),, Dave Carr (tubas), Simone Rebello (percussion), Tubalate and Katabatic Winds
