Tuba Virtuoso Leslie Neish has recently
visited Ireland for the annual SA Belfast Temple Music School held in
Castlewellan Castle. This is Leslie's second year as guest artist for
the week long residential course where he tutors, performs recitals &
master-classes and plays Eb Bass under the baton of his old RNCM
colleague and friend Jonathan Corry in the school's A band.
Leslie, a member of Tubalate is an
internationally renowned tuba virtuoso performing as a soloist all over
the world with various ensembles. He is also a member of the Fodens
Richardson band with whom he has recently won the new English Nationals
contest. Leslie and Jonathan have been close friends since they joined
the National Youth Orchestra at the same time in 1998, since then they
have been close friends through their time at the RNCM.
During the week Leslie performed various
items including "Fnugg Blue", "Carnival of Venice", "Rumanian Dances"
and RSA's arrangement of Mozart's Aria from the Opera The Magic Flute.
He was accompanied on piano by Lesley-Anne Finikin. Leslie and other
staff members led sectional rehearsals culminating in a thrilling
performance of Ray Steadman-Allen's "The Holy War".
It was a real coup for the music school
having an artist of Leslie's talent working with the young brass
students explains Jonathan Corry who was happy to be able to re-acquaint
with his friend. |
