A big crowd enjoyed
a fantastic day of Brass Band music at the
Picnic in the Park: Brass Band
Competition
held on the grounds of the Durham Light
Infantry Museum & Durham Art Gallery - an event organised by
Durham County Brass Band Association and Durham County Council, as part
of the Durham Brass Festival 2006.
There were morning
and afternoon sessions that delivered a superb selection of competitive
music for Section A & B and C & D bands.
RMT
Easington Colliery
Band won
the Section A & B competition with
187
points
and
Westoe Brass Band
won the Section C & D competition and the Dennis Todd Trophy with
183 points.
Hundreds of people
gathered to watch and listen as the different bands produced a
very entertaining day - enjoyed by a host of families who had come armed
with their picnic hampers that were packed full of culinary delights.
"It was a great
privilege for the band to play at this year's Picnic in the Park. It
was our first time performing in this particular competition and it caps
off a fabulous year for us, as it's our eighth trophy in the past twelve
months. I'm proud of our achievements as we just keep on getting better
and better the more times we play,"
said Scott Meike, Secretary of RMT Easington Colliery Brass Band.
