Dyke Gala details

Black Dyke band announces final details of their Gala concert at Leeds Town Hall Friday, 26th May.

The Grand finale will be Tchaikovsky’s '1812 Overture' in an arrangement by Robert Childs.

Nicholas Childs commented "As part of Black Dyke’s outreach programme we have invited another four bands to join us in this finale to our Gala Concert. With over 200 musicians creating what should be a tumultuous climax to our Leeds gala concert. In my brother’s arrangement there are specially created off stage bands similar to Tchaikovsky’s original that will be used to great effect."

The bands joining Black Dyke will be the Yorkshire Youth Band, Wardle High School, Hebden Bridge and Delph Band. We hope to do other concerts in this series where we can encourage, as part of our outreach programme, other bands to join Black Dyke on the platform from youth Bands through to the more established but community based bands.

Nicholas added: "Professor Philip Wilby has been a great sense of inspiration behind this idea and after carrying out rehearsals with everyone concerned there is a real buzz of excitement for the evening."
