BTS sets out stall

On 28 May, 2006 the British Trombone Society (BTS) will be present at the Cambridge Masters International Brass Band Championships to create more awareness about the society and its activities.

The BTS wants to encourage trombone players in the brass band movement to visit the BTS stand and meet one of its Vice Presidents, Brett Baker. Brett will be pleased to meet you and hear your views on how the society can be more proactive in the brass band movement. Ideas and suggestions can be put to Brett who will be available from 10am to 4pm near the trade stands that day.

At 4pm there will then be a brief meeting for anyone available with the aim of setting up a Brass Band Developmental Team within the BTS. One initiative Brett already has is to invite leading players in the movement to take part in a trombone ensemble that will perform alongside the Black Dyke Trombone Quartet in a recital in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall at lunchtime on 22 July, as part of the International Trombone Festival. In addition Brett would like to create a trombone ensemble of brass band trombone players throughout the country that can play at future BTS events.

Anyone wanting to get involved in the Developmental Team or learn more about the BTS can visit the new BTS website at www.trombone-society.org.uk or email Brett via his website at www.brettbaker.co.uk.
