Brass Explosion 2006

Professional brass musicians, amateur and young players and brass enthusiasts have another chance to meet and play together at UCE Birmingham Conservatoire’s annual BRASS EXPLOSION!, on Sunday 14 May, from 10:30am to 7:30pm. Hosted and organised by Birmingham Conservatoire the event offers a unique mix of celebrity masterclasses, participatory workshops and world class performances - presenting players (and audiences!) of all ages and abilities with a huge range of opportunities to get involved.

Brass Explosion! gives developing players the chance to interact with and learn from experienced professionals, including eminent players from both the brass band and classical traditions. Featured brass band artist is Richard Marshall (solo cornet, Black Dyke Band, pictured) will give an open cornet masterclass and perform with the Conservatoire brass band, conducted by James Watson. Both are members of the Conservatoire’s enviable brass teaching team.

This year’s featured ensemble will be Onyx Brass (pictured), Britain’s most exciting young quintets. Jazz enthusiasts can look forward to classes led by Martin Shaw and Percy Pursglove. Throughout the weekend, there will be instrumental classes for all instruments and standards, including a Junior Workshop.

One of the highlights of this annual event, now in its 5th year, is the massed brass ensemble, which involves upwards of 100 brass players performing together. In addition to attending performances, workshops and masterclasses, participants can also browse through the latest brass instruments and music accessories at several trade stands.

So that every participant has the chance to play in the various workshops and classes organised the capacity is limited and places must be reserved in advance (Day Pass £4, £2 students). For bookings and further information please contact: Jo Rutter, Brass Explosion! Co-ordinator / UCE Birmingham Conservatoire / Paradise Place / Birmingham  B3 3HG.
