Slaithwaite sign Karran

Newest addition to the Slaithwaite Band is Isle of Man cornet star David Karran.

In the wake of his debut performance with the Slaithwaite Band at the recent Area Contests in Bradford, David’s place on the front row has been confirmed and he is looking forward to a long and happy relationship with one of the oldest brass band names in the country.

His first public appearance with the Slaithwaite Band almost failed to materialise due to a technical and logistical difficulty when his formal registration documents did not arrive until a few hours before the band was due to take the stage.  However everything fell into place at the last minute and David was able to make his contribution in Howard Snell’s controversial test piece ‘Images of the Millenium’.

A member of the Ochan Band in the Isle of Man since the age of five, David has moved to West Yorkshire to study under the tutorage of cornet legend Phillip McCann at Huddersfield University and plans to become a professional musician after graduation.

Says David “The Slaithwaite Band is enjoying a renaissance under the leadership of Barry Hudson and I am excited about playing my part in their redevelopment.  There is a great family atmosphere within the band which makes my first major move away from home all the more enjoyable”.

Comments Barry Hudson, Music Director of the Slaithwaite Band “David has great potential and displays a very mature approach to music-making within the brass band medium.  He has fitted in well during the short time that he has been with us and we anticipate some great performances from him in the future”.
