British Open Solo Championships

This years British Open Solo and Quartet Championships has attracted a record entry of over 100 competitors who will compete in five categories. The Senior Solo Championships will commence at 10.30 am with over 35 entrants in a preliminary competition for a place in the final were they  will compete against Kristy Rowe the Earn Keller  2005   International Soloist of the Year Champion from Australia. Regrettably Alex Thomas last years British Open Solo winner is unable to defend his title. The Senior  Solo  Champion will once again receive   an  invitation  to  compete  in  the  Ern  Keller  International  Soloist  of  the  Year  to  be  held  on    Sunday 19th February 2006 in  Sydney  Australia. Our  thanks once again to  Ken  Bradley  and  St  Marys  Band  Club  Brass  Band  in  Australia  for  their  assistance  and  generous  support.

The Senior Quartet Championship will commence at the conclusion of Open Solo Preliminary competition at approximately 3.00pm when the Willebroek Cosy Brass Quartet from Belgium will defend their title.

 At 10.30 am in the Newton Suite of Hyde Town Hall the Intermediate Preliminary Championship will commence, when over 30 entrants along with defending champion Vickiy Reynolds will compete for a place in the final later in the day. At 1.30 approximately the Junior Quartet Championship will take place with a record of 12 entrants, and at 3.00 pm approximately once again in the Newton Suite The Junior Solo Final will take place.

This years British Open Solo and Quartet Championships should provide an excellent days of music with adjudicators John Berryman, Derek Broadbent, Malcolm Brownbill, Brian Buckley, Dr Roy Newsome and James Scott, and accompanists  David  Jones, and  Roderick  Barrand, on duty.  

Entrance fees for the public are £3 and £2.
