The Ipswich and
Norwich Co-Op Band are honoured to be announced as the ‘official’ band
of Ipswich Town Football Club. This came about following an approach by
Ipswich Town’s Head of Communications and Media, Terry Baxter, and the
Co-Op Band Manager, Ian Burton.
This exciting
partnership commences on Sunday 18th September when the
entire band will perform at the ground for one hour before the kick-off
of the infamous local ‘derby’ game between Ipswich Town and Norwich City
and is then followed up with a smaller band performing throughout every
home game at Portman Road.
Robin Norman,
Musical Director of the Ipswich and Norwich Co-Op Band, said of the
partnership; “This is a very exciting partnership for the band bringing
together the one of the two premier football clubs in East Anglia with
one of the premier Brass Bands in something we hope will be mutually
beneficial in terms of publicity for the band and raising the spirits of
the Ipswich Town fans. Suffolk people are very passionate about their
football and their team and this venture is particularly exciting for
the many football fans within the band who will get to every home game
to combine their love of music with their love of football. In addition
to the 20,000+ fans we will be entertaining at the games Ipswich Town
football club regularly appear as a featured Championship match on
television and this sort of possible publicity for the Brass Band
fraternity in general can only do it good.”
The Ipswich and
Norwich Co-Op Band are based in Ipswich and are one of only three
Championship graded bands from East Anglia for the 2006 contest year.
With their own bandroom the band rehearses every Tuesday and Friday and
has a Cd recording planned along with an exciting program of concerts
and contests throughout the UK for the 2005/2006 season. New players of
Championship Section standard are always welcome (particularly Tenor
Horn and Percussion players); for more details contact Musical Director,
