New Mead Solo CD

Euphonium virtuoso Steven Mead has just released a new solo CD with his first band, Boscombe Citadel Salvation Army Band.

Steven says of the disc, "This project is one I have wanted to do for many years. I learned so much at Boscombe Salvation Army and so many of my childhood memories revolve around the Boscombe Band. They encouraged me and gave me opportunities to play solos with the band and so I knew at sometime it would be great to go back to Bournemouth and make music with them again.

We did a very successful concert together last October and then followed it up with this recording. The band sound great, better than ever and Howard Evans has really got the band playing well. Boscombe Band always had a big warm sound and now they have that and so many other fine qualities. I was going through the history of the band and looking at many historical photos of the band, and saw generations of my own family in those pictures. So I am really happy about the CD, and I hope brass audiences will get to learn more about this famous Salvation Army Band. I think it's going to be well received"

The repertoire of the CD includes Salvation Army classics and a few of the newer Army solos and a few non-Army pieces that sit nicely alongside these. The title of the CD is Locomotion, released with Steve's own company Bocchino Music and available from all good brass CD retailers.

More information, sound clips and photos are to be seen on Steve's website www.euphonium.net
