Internationally renowned Horn Soloist,
Lecturer and Teacher Owen Farr, pays a rare visit to Sheffield to hold a
Masterclass and Recital at the Sheffield Central Library Theatre, on
Sunday September 4th, 2005
Owen, often described as the world’s finest
exponent of the Tenor Horn, teaches brass at the Royal Northern College
of Music, The Birmingham Conservatoire and The Royal Welsh College of
Music and Drama, and is sponsored by Besson Musical Instruments. He was
a British National Solo Champion at the age of 14, and currently holds
the principal horn position with Welsh Champions Buy as you View Band.
Previously, Owen played principal horn with the double national champion
winning Fairy FP (Music) Band, and if all this isn’t enough, he is
also Tenor Horn soloist with the world famous SONAR Brass quintet.
The Masterclass, delivered in Owens own
unique style, will be held between 5.00pm and 7.00pm, and aims to
provide brass instrumentalists at all ages and levels of ability,
irrespective of instrument, with tools for improvement. This will
include techniques for circular breathing, super endurance, and a
demonstration of playing over a full six C’s octave range. All
participants in the Masterclass who wish to bring an instrument may do
so, as Owen will be asking for volunteers from the audience to assist in
the demonstrations.
At 7.30pm the recital and concert will
commence featuring Owen putting into practice all the techniques on
display. He will be joined on stage by Sheffield’s own ‘The Brass
Players’ septet, seven of Sheffield’s finest brass
instrumentalists, who will be accompanying Owen and performing a
programme of popular and entertaining music from all genres.
Places for this unique experience are
strictly limited, and for the Masterclass cost £5.00, the Recital and
Concert £5.00 or £7.50 for tickets for both sessions.
Tickets are available in advance by
telephoning 0114 286 2454 or at the Box Office on the evening. |
