Bands Alive!

September 5th – 11th will see Eastbourne’s very first military band extravaganza taking place on the beautiful seafront of Eastbourne and includes music from some of the very best military bands in the British Army producing a week of pure musical enjoyment, all for charity.

After a spectacular line up of events including the Hastings Direct International Tennis Championships at Devonshire Park and Airbourne, the International Airshow, Eastbourne’s summer will draw to an end with music and fireworks held at a variety of venues including the bandstand and the Congress Theatre.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin said “The town has a large military presence including the Redoubt Fortress that holds the largest military museum of its kind in the country, so it is wonderfully exciting to be holding this new event here in Eastbourne. We are delighted to welcome some of the most prestigious military bands to perform in front of enormous crowds of music fans”.

With over 300 events and shows to choose from, Eastbourne attracts over 4 million visitors every year; this festival style concert has been organised in order to satisfy the enormous diversity of musical tastes and the demand for military music in Eastbourne. The 1930’s bandstand and seafront are the perfect venues to hold such an event due to the beautiful surroundings and accessibility for all.

The programme of entertainment will feature traditional military music and some contemporary pieces from ten top-level military bands including the Band of the Parachute Regiment, the Dragoon Guards and the Central Band of the Royal British Legion. There will be special evening concerts with firework finales, a Gala Concert held at the Congress Theatre and a Beating Retreat on the Western Lawns.

The Bands Alive! concerts will take place twice daily from 5th –11th September. With all profits going to charity, tickets are priced from £4.50 for day concerts, advance purchase and will be available via the box office and weekly tickets for the bandstand events are priced at £50.
