Pontins Excelsior update

The Pontins Brass Band Committee have received the following note from Howard Snell the composer of this years Third Section Test Piece Excelsior.

This note has been included with every score and parts ordered for this years Pontins Third Section, however some bands may have previously purchased the test piece and for this reason we would like to make sure that these bands are made aware of the situation. The note reads as follows:-

The ‘revised’ version of Excelsior! has two note changes. In the final chord of the piece the Repiano Cornet and Flugel Horn are changed from B on the third line of the stave to a D on the fourth line. The set used in the National Finals several years ago, contained one brief but serious misprint… in the First Trombone part (not score) of the third movement, Souvenirs. Bands that have the previous National set can, if they wish, receive the revised Score and new parts for Repiano, Flugel and First Trombone free of charge with my compliments.

The piece itself contains a few moments of dissonance, notably in some inner chords in the Salute, and in the fast section of Souvenirs in the cornets. These are deliberate.

Replacement parts can be obtained from Kirklees Music.
