Bolton Brass Day

Bolton Music Service will be holding an annual "Brass Day" on Monday 20th June, at the Victoria Hall, Bolton Town Centre. The day is aimed at younger brass players between the ages of 7 and 12, who are at Primary School or in their 1st year of High School, and it promises to be very exciting. Tutors will be Dave King (Cornet/Trumpet), Richard Iles (Trumpet - Jazz specialist), Helen Tyler (Baritone & Euphonium), Richard Broomhead (Trombone) and Helen Minshall (Tuba). Richard Broomhead will be working with several Alto Trombone players, who have been learning to play since September, as part of a "Wider Opportunities" project, which was launched at last year's Brass Day, and has been very successful.

Visiting tutors - We are delighted to welcome John Miller, Head of Brass, Royal Northern College of Music, who will take a trumpet workshop in the morning. Also, David Chatterton, Head of Brass, Chetham's School of Music, who will be taking a brass ensemble rehearsal in the afternoon, when the more advanced players will have the opportunity to work with students from Chetham's. We also welcome Andrew Berryman, Principal Trombone, Halle Orchestra, who will take a Trombone workshop. Andrew has been working on an Orchestral Brass Project over several weeks with Bolton Music Centre's advanced brass players, and Corus Brass, and it has been a pleasure for everyone involved.
