A group of brass players from the Notts and
Derbyshire area formed together undertake yet another successful tour as
Sherwood Brass.
The band, consisting of players from nine
different bands under the baton of Sharon Stansfield, set off for Cyprus
for a series of four concerts in the Limmasol area.
The band was honoured to be invited by the
Coeur de Lion Lion’s club of Limassol to play in the ancient
amphitheatre at Curium in a concert in support of the local cancer
charity. An appreciative audience of over 500 people were treated to
feast of light music in possibly the first “Last Night of the Proms”
concert to be performed in an original Roman theatre! After two encores,
the band was then treated by the Lions club to magnificent meal
supplemented by suitable refreshments from the local brewery!
Our second concert raised considerable
funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. This was another great
event with an audience who knew how to party! Again, the band had to
perform two encores and once more, they were treated to a wonderful meal
with plenty of refreshments
The band also took part in a music festival
at a music school in Limassol, a feast of singing, dancing and brass,
and finished its series of concerts in the hotel that had endured the
band for the week: an event that was enjoyed by all!
The entire band would like to thank the
organisers of the trip, Geoff Hawley and Tracey Wardle, for a fine job,
well done and look forward to many more trips abroad in the future. |
