Brass in Concert

Administrators of the Brass in Concert Championship, Paul & Jacqueline Beere have announced significantly increased interest from bands in the UK’s leading brass entertainment contest in the year that the event moves to its new venue, the ‘state of the art’ The Sage Gateshead.

The full line up is now almost confirmed, with only one place being held open as an option for the possible participation of a European band. Last year’s champions, and great supporters of the event, Grimethorpe Colliery (UK Coal) Band, together with the Buy As You View Band and Brighouse & Rastrick lead the field of competing bands. Other confirmed entries have come from newly crowned All England Masters International champions, Scottish Co-op, together with Reg Vardy Band, Flowers, Sellers International, Mount Charles, Whitburn, Hepworth (Persimmon Homes) and Ransome bands.

Commenting on this upturn in interest in Brass in Concert, Paul said “There’s no doubt that the move to The Sage Gateshead has stimulated a great deal of interest from some of our leading bands. It’s clear that the opportunity to compete in this fabulous concert hall has revived interest in bands, some of whom have not participated in Brass in Concert for a while.

Paul Beere also confirmed that the organisers will be moving towards a vision which would see Brass in Concert become a weekend long brass festival, rather than just a one day event. The first major step to achieving this will be taken this year when a Gala Concert will be staged on Saturday 19th November, the evening prior to the Championship.

Commenting further, Paul Beere stated that the concert, would feature the Buy As You View Band, conducted by Dr Robert Childs, the Reg Vardy Band under Ray Farr and a guest appearance from Cornet Virtuoso David Daws.

Tickets are expected to go on sale within the next week, available from The Sage Gateshead Box Office.
