The Ransome Band recently performed it’s Annual Christmas
concert at the Palace Theatre in Newark. Under the baton of Graham
O’Connor, the band mixed it’s usual concert programme with some
Christmas favourites in what has become the end-of-year showcase in
front of the band’s home audience. These concerts have become a hit over
recent years, and this one was no exception, with the band performing to
a packed auditorium.
As has become tradition, the band presents it’s awards
for Player of the Year and Bandsman of the Year. These awards are voted
for by the band, and were presented by Graham O’Connor. The Player of
the Year award was shared this year between Jim Henson, the band’s
Principal Eb bass player, and David Bird, the band’s Soprano Cornet
player. David paid tribute to Jim, saying “I’m really pleased that he’s
won the award as he deserved it. Every test piece we’ve played this year
has had a solo for Eb bass in it, and Jim was outstanding on all of
them.”
In a repeat of last year’s result, the Bandsman of the
Year was won by the Band Manager, Jo Riseley. On presenting the award,
Graham commented “this really goes to show the level of commitment and
the amount of work Jo puts into the band. She has worked tirelessly this
year on behalf of the band.”
The Band returns to the Palace Theatre on Friday 4th
and Saturday 5th February for it’s Proms concert, which
promises to be another sell-out, with the lure of the Ransome Band in
fancy-dress adding to the attraction. |
