Lucian's Trumpet Fame

Lucian Russell-Price (15) from Draycott, was recently one of the award winners of a BBC Fame Academy Bursary. He was chosen out of thousands of entries across the UK to buy a flügelhorn. He is a specialist musician at Wells Cathedral School.

The official charity from Fame Academy recently announced the winners of it's Instrument & Equipment Awards. The Awards, set up from £2.7m generated over the Fame Academy Series, are designed to develop new musical talent, giving away over 500 instrument grants worth up to £1,200 each over 3 years to young people between the ages of 11-15.

"I was delighted and surprised as I knew thousands of people would enter it"

"I am looking forward to the prospect of playing jazz ballads on such a beautiful instrument"

He has been invited, for the third time, to play with the Banda Municipal de Musica de Santa Cruz de Tenerife next Easter. His performances will include a jazz ballad composed by his father and played on his flugelhorn.

LSO Brass Academy
Chosen from brass players (aged 14-23), across the UK he was the youngest to take part in a week of masterclasses, ensemble playing and concerts with the principle brass players of the London Symphony Orchestra as part of their Discovery Project.

"I was surprised to get in and was the youngest one there of 40 brass players from the whole of the UK. Most people were music college students"

"It was a fantastic week of high class playing."
"My masterclass with Rod Franks (principle trumpet) will stay with me forever. "
"The work he did undoubtedly helped with my diploma the following week."

ATCL Recital Performance Diploma
A week after attending the LSO Brass Academy Course Lucian gained his Performance Diploma from the Trinity College of Music. [usually taken whilst at music college]

"astounded, all my hard work paid off"
"I couldn't believe that at 15, I had actually reached Diploma standard. It was, and still, is unbelievable"

Lucian's father, composer Keith Amos, is currently writing a Trumpet Concerto for symphony orchestra which Lucian hopes to premiere in the near future.

Lucian is currently a specialist musician at Wells Cathedral School but will be moving to Chethams School of Music in Manchester next September for his sixth form.
