Each year, the Royal Philharmonic Society
awards a number of scholarships, bursaries and prizes
to support the
development of young musicians and composers. These include The Julius Isserlis Scholarship, a biennial award of £25,000 to fund study abroad
for a period of two years. Applications are now invited for the 2005
scholarship, which for the first time ever is open to players of brass
instruments (including period instruments).
The award is open to musicians of any nationality between the ages of 15
and 25 (under 26 on 30 June 2005) who are resident in the UK. The
scholarship is awarded by competition, with applicants asked to prepare
a 45 minute recital. Auditions will be held in June 2005 and the winner
will be expected to commence the period of study abroad by October
2006.
Full terms and an application form for the Julius Isserlis Scholarship
can be easily downloaded from the RPS website
www.royalphilharmonicsociety.org.uk or are available by post from
the RPS, 10 Stratford Place, London W1C 1BA. Applicants should enclose
an A4 stamped addressed envelope and mark correspondence “Julius
Isserlis Scholarship”. The closing date for applications is 18 March
2005.
