New appointment for St Austell |
|
Following the sudden and unexpected
resignation of Steven Osborne, St Austell Band are pleased to announce
the appointment of Kevin Ackford as Musical Director of the Youth Band
and Senior Tutor of the St Austell School of Brass and Percussion. Kevin has established himself as a successful teacher and band trainer, especially of younger players with the Denton Band and is delighted to have the chance to return to his native Cornwall, and particularly to St Austell Band. Kevin shared so much success in the late 70's and early 80's with St Austell. His enthusiasm is infectious as was proved at a recent rehearsal with the Youth Band, which was fully attended despite being called at extremely short notice, "Just so that we can check that the chemistry is right", as Kevin asked. As the writer of the signature tune for Radio Cornwall's "Sounds of Brass" and with a commission from Camborne Youth Band to his credit Kevin is also establishing himself as a sought after composer which should bring new delights to the Cornish repertoire. Although his move to St Austell will not be completed until late November, Kevin has already signed as Solo Euphonium for the St Austell Town Band with whom he will play at "Pontins". |
