Astley Youth Band on French TV

Astley Youth Band's forthcoming Concert tour of the French Alps was given a five minute spot on French Television News recently. Initially France 3 Alpes wanted to make a feature programme for their Arts and Culture programme but in the end there wasn't time for a French TV crew to be sent over from Grenoble before the band departs for its tour.

Instead, the television network commissioned video-recordings from a local independent production company. These showed the Band rehearsing at a masterclass led by some of the areas Brass finest musicians and some of the Astley youngsters being interviewed - in French, of course. France 3 combined these recordings with an interview with the Director of the Chateau de Vizille, location of one of the Concerts (which will be the first by any British Band or Orchestra) and a French-based helper of the Band's organisers. The Television station is planning to record the entire concert which takes place on 24th July.

Although the Band has less than a month before it leaves for its Tour of the Alps, it still has a number of concerts to perform in the Manchester area, but the topic of conversation for all of the 72 people going on the tour, not least the 48 players, is how the French will respond to their mixed repertoire of marches, classical, jazz, pop, and film music. The French TV executives, at least, are very optimistic!
