Gerald Coleman - Obituary

Gerald Coleman who died on Friday 30th April 2004 was a life long supporter of the brass band movement.  His love of brass bands began when he joined Cory Juniors as a boy. As a teenager he joined the Treherbert Band before joining The South Wales Borderers as a bandsman on active service in Malaya.  On his return home he joined the Mid Rhondda Band and played in the Champions Section until his retirement from banding in 1977 to pursue business interests. The business (Buy As You View) agreed to sponsor the Cory Band in 1998 and since that time Gerald regularly attended competition rehearsals at the company’s head office in Llantrisant and also enjoyed supporting the band at national and regional competitions.  He will be sadly missed by the business and the band.  Gerald leaves his beloved wife Ann, daughters Allyson and Heather, and grandsons Matthew, Alexander and Morgan.
