The
Nottinghamshire based Thoresby Colliery Band have been busy recruiting in
recent months, but not for their playing line-up.
The band is
pleased to announce that its new Honorary Life Vice-President is Dame Judi
Dench who has
played lead actress roles in a
number of movies not to mention her current role as 'M' in the James Bond
films.
Dame Judi's
association with the band stemmed from 11th September 2003 when both
Thoresby and Dame Judi appeared on numerous television and radio
broadcasts, performing in London for the American Embassy and British
Government.
The band
have also appointed Simon Kerwin as its Composer in Residence and a number
of unique compositions and arrangements have already been gratefully
received by the band, and will filter into the concert repertoire.
The band
are also pleased to announce that Andrew Duncan has accepted the position
as Professional Conductor and will appear with the band at the forthcoming
All England Masters at the end of this month.
Commenting
on these appointments, band Chairman, John Richardson said
“I am pleased that the band is
maintaining a high profile and moving forwards. The new appointments will
improve the band musically and help to advance the high standards already
attained."
Thoresby
will be making an announcement with regard to the appointment of a
Resident Conductor in due course.
